freelance jobs Reddit, For those who make a living by doing online freelancing: How do you operate?

I work as a programmer full-time, and the organization I work for truly treats me well. To augment my income and perhaps someday become “self employed,” I’ve been trying to do internet freelancing, but I suppose the grass is always greener on the other side.

freelance jobs Reddit The first obstacle I had to overcome was finding a “work” details

on one of the several freelance websites currently in existence, but this was practically impossible! Given some of the project criteria, I discovered that I was competing against people who had a lot better local reputation and would work for what I consider a pittance.

In order to get a few contracts and build up my “reputation,” I found myself lowering my asking price with the idea that I could raise it later. However, after I did this, I noticed that many other people were doing the same thing, and that employers often chose the lowest or most desperate bidder. I did the same thing—I was/am part of the newbies who are now impeding my ability to be employed at a fair salary.

I have so far been able to complete some work on Freelancer.com, and while I appreciate the freedom to choose a project that interests or challenges me and the opportunity to learn new skills I probably won’t at my current place of employment, I generally find the entire experience frustrating for the reasons mentioned above and the fact that there is no way in hell I could make a living from the meager pickings available.

Sorry for the long introduction—I just wanted to vent—but now for the real question: How did you get started and what advice would you provide to someone considering becoming a successful independent software developer? How can you find a job precisely without lowering your compensation or the people around you?

work from home jobs Reddit, freelance jobs Reddit

I currently work three (3) remote jobs. I now work 5 hours a day for all three jobs and make $120,000 a year. I’ve figured out the system.

Covid altered the dynamic. A few times after the pandemic began, I had a realization.

freelance jobs Redditfreelance jobs Reddit My employment now required me to work from home remotely. The ability to work a second full-time job would obviously be unattainable if I still had to commute to the office, but because my home serves as my

office, I figured why not. Getting the second work-from-home job (claims processing) for $35k a year was initially done as an experiment. Next, a month and two months passed. and I had no trouble working both jobs while earning two salaries.

I can easily do the work I need to do in the first hour and then simply follow up throughout the day; my total desk time for both jobs would be about 5 hours. So I made the decision to take a third work-from-home position. A similar position that only pays $35,000 a year as a claims processor. In addition to my primary job, I make $120,000 from all three jobs. I urge anyone who is tired of commuting to a job that is a dead end at a restaurant, office, warehouse, or retail store to do the same from the comfort of their own home since it has revolutionized my life. I’ve been let down by the system for too long, so I’m taking charge.
